Portugal
Portugal are the strongest team in Group K, and are big favorites to win their group. Despite never having won a World Cup, Portugal have progressed past the group stage in four of the last six editions of the tournament – including a quarter-final defeat in 2022. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line yet again despite being 41 years of age, while the rest of Portugal’s roster is full of talent, including the likes of Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao, Ruben Dias, and Joao Neves.
DR Congo
DR Congo have only qualified for the World Cup one time prior to 2026, when they competed as Zaire in the 1974 World Cup in Germany. They went out in the group stage on debut, losing all three group games. More recently, DR Congo were beaten in the round of 16 at AFCON 2025, and they look likely to struggle in Group K.
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan are a nation that have benefitted from the change in World Cup format, from 32 teams to 48 teams. This increase has helped Uzbekistan to qualify for the first World Cup in their history, which was confirmed after their goalless draw against UAE in qualifying. Uzbekistan and DR Congo are the two weakest teams in Group K on paper, although Uzbekistan do have Premier League experience in the form of Abdukodir Khusanov.
Colombia
Colombia failed to qualify for the last world cup in 2022, following a round of 16 exit in 2018 and a quarter-final defeat in 2014, which was their best ever performance at a World Cup. While their World Cup record isn’t the strongest, Colombia have some star players in their roster in Bayern Munich’s Luis Diaz and ex-Minnesota United’s James Rodriguez.
