Monterrey Stadium (Estadio BBVA) History

Estadio BBVA opened in 2015, replacing Estadio Tecnologico as the home of the C.F. Monterrey soccer team. The stadium hosted the eighth Eusebio Cup in 2015, where Monterrey defeated Benfica 3-0. Estadio BBVA is located in Guadalupe, in Nuevo Leon, and is commonly referred to as El Gigante de Acero, which translates to ‘The Steel Giant’.

It was the most expensive stadium in Mexico at the time of its construction, built at a cost of $200 million. The stadium was developed by C.F. Monterrey owner FEMSA, construction began in 2011 and was completed by 2015. At the time of opening, it was the fourth-largest stadium in Mexico.

What is the Monterrey Stadium like?

The stadium features several key amenities, including suites, a club lounge, a club themed restaurant, and more. The inclination of the main stand is a steep 34 degrees, with the distance between the field and seats being the minimum allowed by FIFA. This creates an intense atmosphere and gets you as close as possible to the action.

From the outside, the stadium is unique. You can’t miss it, with its reflective silver covering that fills all angles of the outside of the stadium, including the roof. Around the stadium are areas of greenery, helping the venue stand out even further.
