How to Bet on Fights

There’s a huge card coming up, so are you ready to bet on the big fight with Fanatics Sportsbook? Here are the different types of bets that are offered.

Moneyline Betting for Fights

The most popular wager for a fight is the moneyline, or betting on which fighter will win the bout. When learning how to bet on a fight, you’ll encounter three different situations—wagering on a favorite, on an underdog or on a pick’em.

Since the favorite is viewed as more likely to win, you’d wager a bigger amount than the potential amount you’d win. In this situation, a minus sign (-) would come before the price of the favorite. For example, if you decide to bet on a -150 favorite, you’d have to lay $150 to win $100 (for a total potential payout of $250, $150 stake and $100 winnings).

On the flip side, with a moneyline bet on the underdog, you would get a bigger payout than your stake amount if you win. An underdog is displayed with a plus sign (+) in front of its price. So if you placed a $100 bet on a +200 underdog that won their fight, you would receive a total payout of $300—$200 in winnings and your $100 stake.

A pick’em means that the game is viewed as a toss-up and both fighters have the same price to win, which is commonly -110. While both foes would have a minus sign (-) in front of their price, that doesn’t mean they are both the favorites. But it does mean that you would have to lay $110 to net $100 for a potential total payout of $210.

Total Rounds Betting for Fights

If you’re rooting for a quick finish or a bout to get the distance, you can wager on the total rounds of the fight. It works similarly to an over/under market in other sports, where you can bet the over or under for how long the fight will last.

Let’s say the total rounds for a fight is set at 3.5. Even though the over/under is at 3.5, that doesn’t mean that the fight must go four full rounds in order for the over to cash. Rather, it must cross the halfway point of the time for that round.

So if you bet the over on 3.5 on a fight with 3-minute rounds, if the bout is still going on with 1:29 left or less in the fourth round, you would cash your over. Meanwhile, if you take under 3.5, you will win if the fight ends in the first three rounds or before the fourth round hits 1:30 on the clock.

If the fight finishes with exactly 2:30 left in the fourth round, it’d be a push and you’d get your original stake back.

Winning Method Betting for Fights

How well do you know your favorite fighters? Fanatics Sportsbook offers odds not just on which person will win the fight, but how they will do it.

You can bet on a fighter to win by decision, by KO/TKO/DQ or even the fight to end as a draw. Since there are more options for how a fight can be decided compared to who wins a fight, bettors will get bigger payouts if they choose the method of victory correctly. Mastering how to read boxing odds will aid in making these more complex bets.
