How to Bet on UFC and MMA Fights
There’s a massive card coming up, so are you ready to bet on UFC with Fanatics Sportsbook? Here are the different types of UFC bets that are offered and how to bet on UFC fights effectively.
UFC/MMA Moneyline Betting
Understanding how UFC betting works is key here. The most popular UFC wager is the moneyline, or betting on which fighter will win the bout. When betting on the moneyline in UFC, there are three different situations you would encounter—wagering on a favorite, on an underdog or on a pick’em.
Since the favorite is viewed as more likely to win, you’d wager a bigger amount than the potential amount you’d win. In this situation, a minus sign (-) would come before the price of the favorite. For example, if you decide to bet on a -150 favorite, you’d have to lay $150 to win $100 (for a total potential payout of $250, $150 stake and $100 winnings).
On the flip side, with a moneyline bet on the underdog, you would get a bigger payout than your stake amount if you win. An underdog is displayed with a plus sign (+) in front of its price. So if you placed a $100 bet on a +200 underdog that won their fight, you would receive a total payout of $300—$200 in winnings and your $100 stake.
A pick’em means that the game is viewed as a toss-up and both fighters have the same price to win, which is commonly -110. While both foes would have a minus sign (-) in front of their price, that doesn’t mean they are both the favorites. But it does mean that you would have to lay $110 to net $100 for a potential total payout of $210.
UFC/MMA Total Rounds Betting
If two knockout artists are squaring off but you’re not sure who will win, you may turn to the total round market. It works similarly to an over/under market in other sports, where you can bet the over or under for how long the fight will last.
Let’s say the total rounds for a UFC fight is set at 1.5. Even though the over/under is at 1.5, that doesn’t mean that the fight must go two full rounds in order for the over to cash. Rather, it must cross the halfway point of the time for that round.
So if you bet the over on 1.5 on a fight with 5-minute rounds, if the bout is still going on with 2:29 left or less in the second round, you would cash your bet. Meanwhile, if you take under 1.5, you will win if the fight ends in the first round or before the second round hits 2:30 on the clock.
If the fight finishes with exactly 2:30 left in the second round, it’d be a push and you’d get your original stake back.
UFC/MMA Winning Method Betting
How well do you know your favorite UFC stars? Fanatics Sportsbook offers odds not just on which fighter will win the fight, but how they will do it.
You can bet on a fighter to win by decision, by KO/TKO/DQ or by submission. Since there are more options for how a fight can be won compared to who wins a fight, bettors will get bigger payouts if they choose the winning method correctly. Understanding how UFC betting works for these scenarios can lead to more successful wagers.
