Atlanta Stadium (Mercedes-Benz) Stadium History
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened less than 10 years ago, in 2017. It is the home to NFL team Atlanta Falcons, as well as soccer team Atlanta United FC. In recent years, several major sporting events have taken place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, including the MLS Cup in 2018 and Super Bowl LIII in 2019.
The total cost of the venue was estimated at a huge $1.6 billion, it is owned by the state of Georgia and operated by AMB Group. Other notable events that have been hosted at the venue include the SEC football championship game, Peach Bowl, and the College Football Playoff National Championship, the latter on two occasions. The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set to host Super Bowl LXII in 2028, too.
What is the Atlanta Stadium like?
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium has an impressive retractable roof, making it an all-weather arena that can be used all year round. From the outside, its silver metal and glass triangles make it a hard venue to miss, and another impressive feature of the stadium is the tunnel shaped bridge that connects car parks to the venue. As you get close to the stadium, you’ll find a large Falcon nearby, linked of course to the Atlanta Falcons, who play their NFL home games at the stadium.
Inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the first thing you’ll notice is the electronic boards that are visible the whole way around the stadium, rather than just one screen at each end. One section in the stadium is a single tier stand, while the remaining stands are steep, three-tier giants, creating an impressive atmosphere on gamedays.
