Kansas City Stadium (Arrowhead Stadium) History

Arrowhead Stadium is best known for being the home of NFL team Kansas City Chiefs. It was opened in 1972, and has been renovated three times since then, the most recent being in 2010. Arrowhead Stadium is the oldest current stadium in the AFC, and is the 25th largest stadium in the USA. It has also hosted a range of soccer matches and regional football matches in the past.

The venue is the largest sports facility in Missouri, with a notable $375 million renovation carried out in 2010. A deal with GEHA in 2021 saw the stadium name change to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which ends in 2031.

What is the Kansas City Stadium like?

Arrowhead Stadium is considered by many to have largely influenced the design of several NFL stadiums, with its steep incline. However, this incline is no longer replicated in modern stadiums, due to accessibility issues and regulations. The stadium is roofless, and is made up of three tiers all around the venue.

From the outside, you’ll notice a distinctive facade that reflects the Chiefs’ team colors, with the exterior made up primarily of concrete and glass. As you approach the stadium’s main entrance, the curved stands are prominent, with a noticeable dip in height behind each end-zone. There is car parking and wide open space all around the stadium, helping it stand out even more.
