Los Angeles Stadium (SoFi Stadium) History
SoFi Stadium opened in 2020, and is the shared home of two NFL sides; Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. It hosted the LA Bowl from 2021-2025, and the stadium is expandable to over 100,000 spectators for major events. SoFi Stadium hosted the Super Bowl in 2022, and is set to host Super Bowl LXI in 2027, as well as the opening ceremony of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The stadium occupies the former site of Hollywood Park Racetrack, and neighbors both the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum. SoFi Stadium is one of two stadiums in the NFL that is shared by two teams, with the other being MetLife Stadium, home to both New York Giants and New York Jets. Other events that have been hosted at SoFi Stadium include WrestleMania 39 and the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup final.
What is the Los Angeles Stadium like?
SoFi Stadium features a translucent canopy above it which covers both the venue and a pedestrian plaza, which makes for pleasant viewing and has climate control advantages. From above, the canopy roof appears in something of a claw shape, with sharp edges and translucent panels all over.
The stadium also has a 360-degree dual-sided video board that can be viewed from anywhere inside the venue. The stadium’s tier structure, made up of five mini-tiers of seating, adds to the giant feeling of the venue, and creates an excellent atmosphere for watching sport. From the outside, the stadium is located next to Rivers Lake, which reflects the bright lights of the venue during night time events.
