Seattle Stadium (Lumen Field) History
Lumen Field is a multi-purpose stadium, opened in 2002. It is the home of NFL team Seattle Seahawks, as well as MLS side Seattle Sounders FC, and National Women’s Soccer League team Seattle Reign FC. Lumen Field has hosted the MLS Cup twice, as well as CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and the Copa America Centenario in 2016, among other soccer events. The stadium is located less than 2km from Downtown Seattle.
Originally called Seahawks Stadium, it was renamed Qwest Field in 2004, and then CenturyLink Field in June 2011. It was finally renamed Lumen Field in November 2020. Lumen Field was also the first in the NFL to have a FieldTurf artificial surface. Other events held at the venue include two Apple Cups, Washington Huskies games, and Seattle Dragons games.
What is the Seattle Stadium like?
Lumen Field is a truly unique stadium, with two tiers of seating wrapped around both sides of the field and one end-zone, leaving the opposite end-zone with only a small number of seating, and a large 13-story tower behind these seats. The tower acts as a vertical scoreboard, the first of its kind in the NFL.
The two stands on either side of the field possess navy blue coloring, and each have Wembley-like arches stretching from one end-zone to the other. There is no roofing over either end-zone seating areas, providing a unique experience at Lumen Field.
